Book Description:

Published in Palmyra, New York, on March 26, 1830, almost two weeks before the formal organization of the church, the Book of Mormon is the founding artifact of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and of many of its offshoots. It also gave the movement its popular nickname and much of its early momentum.

This study treats the Book of Mormon as a book. It follows the English text from the original manuscripts through the 1920 revision, tracing how it was printed, published, and distributed, and how its typography, layout, chapter divisions, and versification changed from edition to edition. It does not address textual, philosophical, or theological questions. Drawing on research from Hugh Stocks's master's and doctoral theses, it is both a publishing history and an analytical bibliography, as well as a reference for collectors and scholars who need to identify and understand the editions and printings.
