Element: A Journal of Mormon Philosophy and Theology

Greg Kofford Books is pleased to announce the return of Element: A Journal of Mormon Philosophy. Although the Society for Mormon Philosophy of Theology is currently out of commission, the journal has been revived with plans for annual issues beginning with volume 9, issue 1, that is now available. We will be hosting the journal and making all issues available for free digital downloads or available to purchase in print.

Please read the welcome message from the new editor, Peter Carmack, and peruse the new issue below. PDFs and print copies can be download or purchased here. Past issues can be downloaded or purchased here.

Welcome back to Element: A Journal of Mormon Philosophy and Theology. We are excited to present once again the finest in philosophical and theological discussions regarding the Restoration tradition. You may ask, “So where have you been?” Element has been silent for about five years due to a number of intervening events. Among those events are Covid-19 restrictions, retirements, displacements, and just sheer facts of life. The Society of Mormon Philosophy and Theology that sponsored and supported Element is no longer in existence. Thus, the journal known as Element will no longer carry that subtitle “A Journal of the Society of Mormon Philosophy and Theology.” However, we express our debt and gratitude to those who were involved in the Society. Element is now produced by a new Board of Editors as a stand-alone journal without the support of an external society or any particular university. The Board of Editors consists of interested academics and independent scholars. We will continue to provide the best articles, book reviews, and discussions of all things related to Latter-day Saint philosophy and theology. Element is not limited to a particular school of thought or approach. We invite everyone to join us in reading the open-source journal and to participate by presenting articles, reviews, and related discussions for review and publication. Welcome aboard!
